Following the Nuggets’ buzzer beater against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Russell Westbrook shoved a fan who stepped onto the court.
Video shows the man walking onto the court and screaming in Westbrook’s face as Russell was walking off the court. The fan was pushed in the shoulder but a ref and arena employee intervened and told the fan he had to leave. The NBA will be reviewing the incident.
Asked whether he felt that shoving the fan was the only way for him to protect himself, Westbrook responded, “Of course.”
“You gotta be able to protect the players, man,” he said. “The fans are obviously there to enjoy the game, but they can’t come onto the floor. That’s totally unacceptable.
Now, let’s get down to business. Fans. Please please stop acting like fools. Just because you pay for a ticket to watch a sport, it does not give you the right to step onto the court and get in a player’s face. Nor is it ok for you to throw things at them from the stands. How many times have we seen a fan at at NFL game get a little mouthy to a player on the sideline or leaving the field? Not only that, but then to THROW THINGS at them. Let’s be civilized, people. It is a game. These are people. And you’re being ridiculous, to put it nicely.
